If you spend your entire Siargao trip around General Luna, you will only see one side of the island.
Some of Siargao’s most interesting landscapes are inland and farther north: endless coconut plantations, freshwater rivers, caves, tidal rock pools and quiet roads connecting small communities.
A Siargao land tour is one of the easiest ways to see several of these places in a single day.
But you do not necessarily need to book a tour.
If you are comfortable riding a motorbike, you can create your own route for considerably less money and have complete control over your schedule.
The most important thing is knowing where to go — and understanding that the tide at Magpupungko should determine the order of your day.
Here is a practical 2026 guide.
What Is the Siargao Land Tour?
There is no single official Siargao Land Tour itinerary.
Different operators offer different combinations.
A classic route around the southern and central part of the island commonly includes several of these stops:
Coconut View Deck
Coconut Road
Maasin River
Tayangban Cave Pool
Magpupungko Rock Pools
Secret Beach
Cloud 9
Longer north-island tours may continue toward:
Pacifico Beach
Alegria Beach
Taktak Falls
Million Dollar View
Trying to visit everything in one day is possible with some tours, but that does not necessarily make it a better experience.
For a first land tour, I prefer concentrating on fewer places and actually having time to enjoy them.
My Recommended Classic Route
For most first-time visitors, a very good route is:
Coconut View Deck
Coconut Road
Maasin River
Tayangban Cave Pool
Magpupungko Rock Pools
This gives you four completely different Siargao experiences without spending the entire day sitting in a vehicle.
You see the enormous coconut landscape.
You visit Maasin’s freshwater river.
You swim and wade through Tayangban Cave.
Then you finish with Magpupungko’s natural tidal pools.
But there is one important rule.
Do not automatically follow this order.
Plan the Entire Day Around Magpupungko Low Tide
Magpupungko is different from the other stops because you cannot decide when the famous pools appear.
The ocean decides.
The rock pools are exposed around low tide and become covered as the tide rises.
Check the tide forecast before leaving General Luna.
If low tide is early in the morning, go to Magpupungko first and work your way back.
If low tide is in the afternoon, visit Coconut View, Maasin and Tayangban first, then arrive at Magpupungko around the low-tide window.
A good tour operator should already understand this and adjust the itinerary.
If you are doing the trip yourself, it is your responsibility.
Never rely on an old blog that says something like “visit Magpupungko at 11 AM.”
Low tide changes every day.
How Long Does a Siargao Land Tour Take?
Most organized land tours run for approximately six to nine hours.
A typical day starts with hotel pickup around 8:00 AM and finishes around 5:00 PM.
Some routes are shorter.
Full north-and-south tours can feel considerably longer because of the amount of driving involved.
If you are traveling independently by motorbike, you control the pace.
That is one of the biggest advantages of the DIY option.
How Much Does a Siargao Land Tour Cost in 2026?
There is no single standard price.
Current 2026 joiner and packaged land tours commonly start around ₱1,800–₱2,200 per person, depending on the route and inclusions.
Some packages combine the land tour with Sugba Lagoon and start around ₱1,799 per person.
Private tours work differently.
The total transport and guide cost is divided among the group, so the price per person drops significantly as more people join.
One current private South Siargao tour, for example, lists approximately:
1 person: ₱5,950
2 people: ₱3,265 each
4 people: ₱1,925 each
6–7 people: ₱1,510 each
Prices change and operators include different things, so use these numbers as a comparison rather than a fixed official rate.
Before booking, ask whether the price includes:
Hotel pickup and drop-off
Driver
Tour guide
Entrance fees
Parking
Lunch
Maasin boat ride
Tayangban guide fee
Do not compare two tours until you know what both prices actually include.
DIY by Motorbike: The Cheaper Option
If you are comfortable riding, doing the land tour yourself can be significantly cheaper.
A normal Siargao motorbike rental is roughly ₱350–₱450 per day.
Then you pay individual entrance fees and activities as you go.
For two people sharing one motorbike, the transportation cost becomes particularly inexpensive.
You also gain something more valuable than saving money:
Time.
If you like Maasin River, stay longer.
If Coconut View is crowded, take a few photos and leave.
If you do not like caves, skip Tayangban completely.
An organized tour cannot offer the same flexibility.
When Should You NOT Rent a Motorbike?
Cheap does not automatically mean better.
Do not choose a motorbike simply to save money if you are not confident riding one.
Siargao roads are used by motorbikes, vans, trucks, dogs, pedestrians and local traffic.
Rain can also make conditions more difficult.
If you have little or no motorbike experience, hire transportation or take a tour.
Your vacation is not the place to learn road safety through
Stop 5: Magpupungko Rock Pools
Magpupungko is the stop that controls the schedule.
At low tide, the Pacific retreats and exposes natural pools in the reef.
At high tide, the landscape changes completely.
This is why I would rather rearrange every other attraction than arrive at Magpupungko at the wrong time.
Bring water shoes because the exposed rock can be sharp and slippery.
If you want to jump from the rocks, ask locally where it is safe and check the water depth first.
Should You Add Pacifico?
If you want a longer road trip, yes.
Pacifico is much quieter than General Luna and is strongly associated with surfing.
Continuing north also lets you see a less developed side of Siargao.
But adding Pacifico means more time on the road.
If this is your first land tour, do not feel that you need to see everything.
Pacifico can easily become its own day.
What About Alegria and Taktak Falls?
These are better suited to a dedicated North Siargao tour.
Current 2026 north and full-island tours commonly include Pacifico, Alegria, Taktak Falls and northern viewpoints.
Trying to combine all of those with Maasin, Tayangban and Magpupungko creates a very long checklist-style day.
If you have enough time in Siargao, split the island into two days:
Classic land tour
North Siargao road trip
You will see more by rushing less.
Organized Tour vs DIY Motorbike
Choose an organized land tour if:
You do not ride a motorbike
You want hotel pickup and drop-off
You prefer having a local guide
You do not want to navigate
You are traveling with children or a larger group
You want someone else to manage the tide schedule
Choose a DIY motorbike trip if:
You are already a confident rider
You want to save money
You want complete control over timing
You enjoy stopping spontaneously
You do not want to rush through attractions
Neither option is automatically better.
Choose according to how you actually travel.
What Should You Bring?
For a full land-tour day, bring:
Cash
Drinking water
Swimwear
Towel
Water shoes
Reef-safe sunscreen
Hat
Dry bag
Waterproof phone case
Change of clothes
Rain protection
Cash is particularly important because small attractions and local activities may not accept cards.
Don’t Try to See Everything
This is probably my biggest recommendation.
Siargao looks small on a map.
That encourages travelers to build itineraries containing ten or twelve stops in one day.
You can do that.
But you may spend the entire day getting out of a van, taking a photograph and getting back in.
Choose the places that actually interest you.
If you love swimming, spend more time at Magpupungko.
If you enjoy quiet scenery, slow down at Maasin.
If caves make you uncomfortable, skip Tayangban.
A good itinerary should fit the traveler, not Instagram.
My Recommended DIY Day
If low tide at Magpupungko is in the afternoon:
Leave General Luna around 8:00 AM.
Stop at Coconut View Deck and Coconut Road.
Continue to Maasin River.
Visit Tayangban Cave Pool.
Have lunch.
Reach Magpupungko before the low-tide window.
Swim and relax.
Then return toward General Luna without rushing.
If low tide is early in the morning, reverse the logic.
Go directly toward Magpupungko first.
Build everything else around it.
Final Thoughts
A Siargao land tour is not really about checking attractions off a list.
It is the day when you finally see what lies beyond General Luna.
Coconut plantations stretch toward the horizon.
Freshwater runs through Maasin.
A dark cave sits almost unnoticed beside the road.
And a few hours later, the Pacific pulls back to reveal the rock pools at Magpupungko.
Book a tour if you want convenience.
Rent a motorbike if you want freedom and already know how to ride safely.
Either way, check the tide first.
On a Siargao land tour, Magpupungko sets the clock.
