Maasin River Siargao is one of the easiest places to experience a different side of the island.
There are no surf breaks, white-sand islands or busy beach clubs here.
Instead, you get a quiet river surrounded by coconut palms, small local boats and one of the most photographed roads on the island.
The famous Coconut Road, Coconut View Deck and Maasin River are close enough to visit together, making this an easy half-day trip from General Luna or a natural stop on the way to Magpupungko and northern Siargao.
Here is a practical 2026 guide to visiting Maasin River.
Where Is Maasin River?
Maasin River is located in Barangay Maasin, roughly 25–30 minutes from General Luna by motorbike.
The drive is straightforward and mostly follows Siargao’s main roads.
One of the easiest landmarks to recognize is the bridge over the river.
If you rent a motorbike, Maasin is simple to combine with other attractions farther north.
You can also visit as part of an organized Siargao land tour.
How Much Does Maasin River Cost?
Prices have changed over time and different visitors report slightly different amounts.
Recent 2026 information generally puts basic entrance at around ₱30–₱100 per person.
Treat this as a guide rather than a guaranteed fixed price.
Bring cash and confirm the current entrance fee when you arrive.
Additional activities such as a river boat ride or drone photography cost extra.
Maasin River Siargao Boat Ride
One of the best ways to experience the river is by taking a small local boat upstream.
Recent travelers in 2026 have reported paying around ₱600 for a boat accommodating approximately three people.
Prices can depend on the arrangement and group size.
Before getting into the boat, ask:
How long is the ride?
How many people does the price cover?
Is the price for the entire boat?
Where will the boat take us?
Agree on the total before leaving.
The boat ride is not about speed or excitement.
The attraction is moving slowly through the river while coconut palms and tropical vegetation surround you.
It is a completely different atmosphere from General Luna.
What About Drone Photos?
Local drone operators can sometimes be found around popular Maasin photo locations.
Recent travelers have reported paying around ₱400 for drone photos or video.
This is not an official fixed price.
Ask what you will receive before paying:
How many photos?
Is video included?
How will the files be transferred?
What is the total price?
If you want the classic aerial shot surrounded by coconut trees, it can be a fun souvenir.
But you certainly do not need a drone package to enjoy Maasin.
The Famous Coconut Road
The road through the Maasin coconut area has become one of Siargao’s signature photo locations.
Tall coconut palms line both sides of the road and create the landscape many travelers associate with the interior of Siargao.
There is no complicated attraction here.
It is simply a beautiful functioning road.
That last point matters.
Motorbikes, cars and local residents still use it.
Do not stand in the middle of the road without watching for traffic, and never lie down on the road just to recreate a social-media photo.
Get your picture and move safely out of the way.
Coconut View Deck
Nearby is the Coconut View Deck, another easy stop.
Despite the name, you should not expect a large tourist observation building.
It is essentially a roadside viewpoint overlooking an enormous landscape of coconut palms.
Current local information indicates that access is free.
From General Luna, the viewpoint is roughly 25 minutes away and sits naturally along the route toward Maasin River and attractions farther north.
This makes it one of the easiest stops to add to a motorbike day trip.
Best Time for Coconut Road Photos
Early morning and late afternoon usually provide the best conditions.
The light is softer and temperatures are more comfortable.
Early morning also gives you a better chance of finding the road relatively quiet.
Around sunset, the warm light through the coconut palms can be beautiful, but you may encounter more visitors stopping for photographs.
If you are riding farther north, morning is particularly convenient.
Stop at the viewpoint and Coconut Road, visit Maasin River, and then continue toward your next destination.
Swimming at Maasin River
Swimming is possible in areas of the river, and jumping into the water has long been part of the Maasin experience.
However, conditions and facilities can change.
Do not assume that an activity shown in an old social-media video is operating exactly the same way today.
Look at the water and ask locals where swimming or jumping is currently appropriate.
If you are not a strong swimmer, use extra caution.
This is a natural river rather than a supervised swimming pool.
What Happened to the Famous Coconut Swing?
Older photos and videos of Maasin often show the famous bent coconut tree and rope swing over the river.
It became one of Si
Combine Maasin With Magpupungko
Maasin River works particularly well as part of a longer land trip.
One obvious combination is:
Coconut View Deck
Coconut Road
Maasin River
Magpupungko Rock Pools
The important thing is to check the tide at Magpupungko first.
Magpupungko’s natural pools are best around low tide, so build your route around the ocean rather than following a rigid order.
If low tide is later in the day, visit Maasin first.
If low tide is early, go to Magpupungko first and stop at Maasin on the way back.
Can You Add Pacifico?
Yes.
Travelers exploring farther north can continue toward Pacifico after visiting the Maasin area.
This makes a motorbike useful because you can stop wherever you want and spend as much time as you like at each location.
But do not try to collect every Siargao attraction in a single day.
The road trip itself is part of the experience.
A slower day often feels much more like Siargao than rushing from photo stop to photo stop.
Motorbike or Organized Land Tour?
If you are comfortable riding a motorbike, visiting Maasin independently is inexpensive and flexible.
Motorbike rentals around Siargao commonly cost roughly ₱350–₱450 per day.
An organized land tour costs considerably more but normally includes transportation, a driver or guide and several attractions.
Current 2026 land tours commonly combine Maasin with Coconut View, Magpupungko and other Siargao destinations.
For travelers who do not ride, a land tour can be the easier option.
For independent travelers, a motorbike gives you much more control over timing.
Is Maasin River Worth Visiting?
Yes, but I would not dedicate an entire day only to Maasin River.
It works best as part of a road trip.
The river itself is peaceful, the boat ride is relaxing and the surrounding coconut landscape is one of the classic Siargao scenes.
But its biggest advantage is location.
You can experience the river, take the Coconut Road photos and continue toward other parts of the island.
My Practical Recommendation
Leave General Luna in the morning.
Stop at the Coconut View Deck.
Take your Coconut Road photos while traffic is relatively light.
Continue to Maasin River.
If you want the boat ride, agree on the price before boarding.
Then continue toward Magpupungko or northern Siargao depending on your itinerary.
If Magpupungko is included, check the low tide before deciding the order of your stops.
Bring cash.
Ride carefully.
And remember that Coconut Road is still a real road, not a photography studio.

Final Thoughts
Maasin River is not Siargao’s biggest attraction.
That is part of its appeal.
A short ride from General Luna takes you away from restaurants, surf shops and beach crowds and into a landscape dominated by coconut palms and freshwater.
Take a slow boat ride.
Stop at the Coconut View Deck.
Photograph the palm-lined road.
Then keep riding.
Some of the best parts of exploring Siargao happen between the destinations.
